Helpful Answers Before You Begin Therapy

Starting therapy can bring up many questions. These answers are designed to help you better understand the process, what to expect, and whether Ember Trauma Therapy & Wellness may be a good fit for your needs.

Q1: What can I expect during my first therapy session?

Your first session is an opportunity to begin getting to know one another, discuss what brings you to therapy, and explore your goals. You will never be expected to share everything immediately. Therapy will move at a pace that feels safe and appropriate for you.

Therapy may be helpful if you feel overwhelmed, stuck in recurring patterns, affected by past experiences, or ready to better understand yourself. A complimentary consultation can help you ask questions and determine whether beginning therapy feels like the right next step.

Ember Trauma Therapy & Wellness works with adults experiencing trauma and PTSD, anxiety, chronic stress, childhood and attachment wounds, perfectionism, self-criticism, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, people-pleasing, and major life transitions.

Therapy is personalized to each client. Depending on your needs, treatment may integrate EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Schema Therapy, IFS-informed therapy, CBT, DBT, ACT, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

EMDR and ART can be effective trauma-processing approaches, but they may not be appropriate for every client or at every stage of therapy. Your needs, readiness, history, and goals will be carefully considered before deciding whether either approach should be included in treatment.

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, concerns, history, and response to treatment. Some clients seek support for a specific issue, while others benefit from longer-term work. Progress and treatment needs will be discussed collaboratively throughout therapy.

Yes. Individual therapy is available to adults through in-person appointments and secure telehealth sessions. Clients participating in telehealth must meet location and eligibility requirements, which will be confirmed before scheduling.

Your privacy is treated with care and respect. Information shared in therapy is generally confidential, with limited legal and ethical exceptions. Confidentiality, communication, and privacy policies will be reviewed with you before treatment begins.
